James is an experienced mediator and arbitrator with a long-established international disputes practice. He is a Chartered Arbitrator and CEDR Mediator and has arbitrated and mediated complex international disputes in many parts of the world. He is also a Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators and the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators.
Called to the Bar in 1975 and silk since 1999, James is a leading authority on cross-border litigation in English and Commonwealth courts, with particular experience in disputes involving financial services, technology and insolvency. His work has also included complex trusts, banking and securities matters, often in high-value international cases.
He has been admitted, permanently or pro hac, in 11 international and offshore jurisdictions, including the Cayman Islands, the British Virgin Islands and Gibraltar. His practice covers international and offshore disputes, business and commercial litigation, regulatory matters, property, inheritance and trusts, and insolvency and restructuring.
James is a former Recorder, Deputy High Court Judge and Deputy Mercantile Judge, and is approved to sit as a judge of the Commercial Court of the British Virgin Islands.
